Hi all,
Its been a fast and furious week, its already Thursday and I have not even updated my blog about the event which happened last week. Well like they say time flies and it waits for no one. So lets cut to the chase.
Like the title suggest, this is about the 1st ever dragon boat race outside of Pulau Pinang. Well I can say they did a good job on organizing it. The atmosphere was electrifying and the excitement so thick you can cut it with a knife.
There are teams from China, Hong Kong Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. Whether it is to create awareness or to win a medal, every team who came have a purpose in mind. The team that which the commentator called them “The Ladies in Pink”. Other then the winning teams, they are the next big attraction. Who are these “Ladies in Pink”? Well they are breast cancer survivors. They may not be as fast as the other competitors, but they are tough. The ladies joined 2 events which were available to them. the 500m and the 2000m, where in both event they finished in style.
The race was fierce every rower and drummer put their heart and soul, rowing as fast as they and the drummer, urging the rowers and at the same time keeping them keeping the rower in perfect synchronization. But all these are not without casualties, during the 2000m event, rowers have been seen to be fainting due to exhaustion and muscle cramps.
After all the drama of winning and casualties, most teams had fun. At the end of the race, winning or loosing is no longer the topic of conversation. For most team, crossing the finish line is just as good as winning.
If you asked me personally, I would say that the event was a success. Hopefully next year would be better.
